I now have a network across geographies of colleagues in a variety of professional disciplines that I utilize to stay connected to global issues and apply to my personal and professional pursuits. A lot of policies fail because of competing interests.

The advantage that Harris graduates have is that we understand those incentives and interests. That informs our work and ultimately matters a lot. Roughly one-third of our full-time students consider themselves as not having a strong quantitative background prior to applying to and enrolling at Harris. Many demonstrated their capability by scoring well on the GRE or taking supplemental quantitative courses prior to coming to Harris. We have all the resources necessary to ensure that enrolling students will excel in our core curriculum.

It is possible to complete the executive MPA with a concentration in rare occasions but will require careful planning with an advisor and additional credit hours.

This concentration provides students with an understanding of how K education is governed, financed and regulated in the United States. Students will become familiar with the interaction between federal, state, and local policies and with the context in which education policy is formulated and implemented. Students must complete 12 credit hours to earn the concentration. Students must complete the following two courses, for a total of 6 credit hours: PUAD — Education Policy 3 credit hours PUAD — Education Finance 3 credit hours Additionally, students must complete two elective courses from the list below for a total of 6 credits.

A student may choose to complete a concentration in environmental policy as part of the MPP. This concentration provides additional knowledge and skills relevant to careers in environmental policy. Students must complete the following two courses, for a total of 6 credit hours: PUAD — Environmental Politics and Policy 3 credit hours PUAD — Environmental Hazards and Law 3 credit hours Additionally, students must complete two elective courses from the list below for a total of 6 credits.

A student may choose to complete a concentration in policy analysis and methods as part of the MPP. This concentration provides training for students interested in building additional quantitative and qualitative skills used in traditional public policy analysis. Programs start each fall, so apply soon to be a part of their fast track program if you already know you want to take your degree in that direction. The University of North Carolina has a whole Public Policy department and a program that can take students all the way through their Ph.

If you are interested in improving the world around you but are unsure where to start to actually make real change on the highest levels then consider attending school in scenic North Carolina. The University of Texas offers a masters in public policy that is competitive but once students are in they will find that the staff is supportive, the curriculum feeds their passion and teaches the skills needed to facilitate change in the field they choose, and when they graduate they leave with both experience and knowledge.
