Hi Matthias, Your post was the best i could find on BB maps.

I have finally got maps after trying for 2 days but please advice me.. Perhaps thats why my maps is not working too well. How can I change this? Todd Brown — No you need to be connected to the internet every time you use Google Maps since the map data is not stored on the Blackberry. To All: Thanks for all the great comments and feedback.

I never expected this type of popularity when I wrote the post nearly 2 years ago. Given that the Blackberry software and Google software is updated frequently some of the info might no longer be applicable in the future. They do this to force you to buy one of the GPS apps they sell. I plan on leaving the plan soon and getting an iPhone. Just picked up a Verizon Curve on ebay.

Updated the OS to 4. Does anybody have the. Thank you so much. It worked like a charm. The blue dot follows me around like a shadow.

Audio playback through the Samsung SBH Bluetooth stereo headset sounded excellent with very good channel separation. The media player has basic playback controls, shuffle and playlist support.

But it had trouble playing WMV files. Perhaps our review unit has some early software or Sprint TV needs one or two updates. The software crashed a few times and had a few hiccups playing the wide variety of on-demand video channels offered by Sprint TV. Many videos play in full screen QVGA mode, which is very nice, but most had ghosting, audio was out of sync with video and frames dropped and stuttered.

As with all Curve smartphones, the BlackBerry Curve has a 2 megapixel camera with digital zoom, and LED flash and a self portrait mirror. The quality of photos the Curve takes has also advanced. The Curve takes sharp photos by 2 mp camera phone standards both indoors and outdoors with a good amount of detail and very good color balance.

Indoor shots have some noise but not bad at all, and in very poor lighting conditions the camera will turn on the flash. The camera phone can shoot photos in three resolutions: x , x and x with three quality settings and the camera software also has white balance and color effects settings. You can use photos as screen image and caller ID or send them to email and Messenger contacts.

The BlackBerry has a slight battery increase from the previous Curve models. The rechargeable Lithium Ion battery is now at mAh and has longer talk time but shorter standby time. The claimed 4.

Talking on the phone, checking email and playing music will not drain the battery life dramatically. But if you use GPS navigation for long commutes, watch videos and especially if you watch Sprint TV in addition to talking and emailing, the Curve will require daily charging. Knigma said Just tried on my 4. Downloaded and replace my older version of GM Apps. After saving the settings on Security Permissions the app started up and prompt a few times for "Application Permissions" it got to "GoogleSearch is attempting to access radio information that may identify your location.

I had to hold END key to restart. I remember this happening with some upgrades to Google Mobile Maps for the BlackBerry a few months ago. Once I rebooted the BB it started working. All Storm users: Dan's link indeed works.

I pasted it into a Opera Mini bookmark, then clicked the bookmark. It asked if I wanted to save the file. I clicked OK and the BB browser kicked in and installed the app. I have not done a battery pull, but up to this point the voice thingy does not work.

The local search is nice since it is automatic based on your location location-aware. It does show the portrait keyboard in a constant state, and does not go to landscape mode. Josh H said I was able to download new version, but when I press talk button to speak I keep getting an error message that says "Try restarting Google Mobile App". Have tried restarting 5 times already with no luck.

Everything else works. Permissions and all settings are correct yet it does not work. Ananya said This is bull, why support all the old phones first and not the Storm? Especially when the Storm can run older apps in compatibility mode anyway? Chris Rowan said Back to my e because I returned my Storm don't get me started. Running 4. The little green phone icon doesn't show up. Yes, I did a battery pull. What gives? Holy crap! You listened to our feedback! You really really listened! Holy shit! I'm shocked.

Good show you guys, this is really really cool! Can we get this kind of service and support on the Blogger side of the Googleverse? March 26, at AM. I tried changing my permission settings, battery pull, everything Any solutions to this fix yet?

I am using a in Canada. Google, you should be ashamed. The Blackberry Storm is the most advanced Blackberry on the market. It should be the first device to get software upgrades, not the last. The fact that you don't even have an older version of google app for the storm, but have now updated the app for older devices, is simply a bad decision.

Support the storm. Dan's link worked to get it on my Storm and it actually works, voice search and location. Which makes it all the more mysterious why there isn't a legit Storm version available.

The only thing that doesn't work is the icons across the top, I can only open Gmail no matter which icon I clicked. Johnny Canuck said Absolute proof that now one reads the actual blog and simply goes straight the "Download Candy". They state in the first paragraph with a link that it does not work on the Storm Anyone else? Cmon Google Get busy! I really don't remember reading that disclaimer about not being supported for the Storm.

I almost want to say it was added after since I think I read that paragraph a couple times after not seeing the link with the default blackberry browser. Common Google, help! Bradd Piontek said Voice Search does not work. Thank you Google! This happens occasionally on my I had the same problem goto advanced options then application permissions and change google maps to allow all on every option.

February 18, at PM. You just don't have a good GPS signal in your location.. And make sure the gps is enabled!! Come on. Why just the Storm? Can't you show love to the thousands of other VZW blackberry owners? Nicolas said Booger said February 19, at AM. Trudonny said Is the Verizon Curve next on the list? The GPS is unlocked February 19, at PM. Way to go Google!

Just give us a straight answer for crying out loud. What is the fundamental difference in the "unlocked" GPS in the Storm vs. Little help here? February 20, at AM. So I have to wonder, if Verizon were to see inquiry after inquiry, via their "Contact Us" website link February 20, at PM. Rachel C said February 24, at AM. Adam Thomas, Crisis Systems Analyst said Don't worry fellow BB users, your not missing much yet. Worse: the Cell tower triangulation is 2 miles off from my actual location. Even if the last known location via GPS stuck so it would stay on the building you are inside of , the implementation of Google Maps on the Storm is horiffic!

There is no horizontal mode supported, so you get a small little map with a big virtual keyboard that you can't get rid of.
