Nikon capture 4 vista
Appreciate the help. A further question has occurred to me. Having installed. The only legal way around this I found was to get a new key from Nikon UK. I had long lost the receipt but they accepted a shot of the original CD and box along with a shot of the "old" key. They sent me a new key via email. Useful to know, thank you John. I've still got the box and the CD with the old key on it, so I'll email Nikon with a shot of it. I'm still running Capture 4. I don't have it running in XP compatibility mode or any other special mode if that's what you're asking re.
Vista's native settings. I remember having the same problem with my CD key but I can't remember exactly how I got it to work. I think I installed my original version of Capture 4 from the CD with the product key provided and then installed the updates to get up to version 4. I am wondering why you would want to install it since it won't open D3 files unless Nikon has updated it.
OO on your own Smugmug account. OK thanks for that Bryan. The product key is my main concern since I only have the old alphabetic one.
I have found a download from the Nikon UK site that supposedly takes care of that, presumably by changing the registry to not expect a numeric key during the subsequent updates I shall probably have a go at installing. I installed Microsoft Dot. Net 1. I had downloaded a Key Utility from the Nikon site which Nikon claim would automatically resolve the problem of having an alphabetic key with the original disc, but the product needing a numerical key after version 4.
So with this in the 'toolbox' I proceeded to install from the original 4. After a few messages of doom, it did finally complete the installation process, BUT once installed, it still stubbornly refused to open, reporting that unspecified dlls were missing! Nothing I tried would persuade it to run. So no chance to run the key utility. So I uninstalled the lot, ran Nikon's Sweeper utility to flush the Nikon references from the registry and reverted to plan B.
I installed the European version of 4. After correcting the paths to a couple of colour management settings, it now runs perfectly. I finished off by running the 4. I'm now left with one issue, that of the product key. It will only allow me in as a trial version that expires in 30 days, and keeps prompting me for a numeric product key, which of course I don't have.
I have emailed Nikon Support with a photo of my disc and alphabetic key as proof of entitlement, and now I'm just waiting with fingers crossed for a response from them and hoping they will do the honourable thing. Having come this far, I'd be gutted if they let me down. We dig into the detail The Nikon Z mm F2.
